As soon as it gets dark earlier in the evening, an exaggerated advertising campaign tries to talk you into buying a torch for 42 euros. The device is described as a “dual arc defensive torch” and a “multifunctional torch with double arc”. It is a well-known and quite good aluminium torch with 2000 lumen light intensity, which has been extended to include a cigarette lighter.
With such a solid metal torch, you can, as the advertising focuses, smash a window pane or ward off a robber – but, hand on heart, when was the last time you did that with a torch? Probably never. And that probably won’t change if you invest 42 euros in the “Dual Arc defensive torch”.
